Module 1: Activity 3 - Social Cognitive Theory

In the group's activity , a lot of great points were brought on on how students learn. I myself have gained some new insights on students learning.
  1. From the reading, the first point raised is that students learn by example. They do what they see. This indicates that teachers should be mindful of their actions as students emulates them.
  2. Reward! Reward! Reward! Students like to feel that their work is important and rewards do just that for student - very good, a sticker etc, are good rewards. This also builds students'confidence.
  3. Students' background affect how they learn. From personal experience, I sometimes have to "street talk" for some students to understand what is being said.
  4. Building rapport with students is another good way to boost students learning. Students who view the teacher as an "enemy" may try to "spite" the teacher by refusing to work. On the other hand, students who view the teacher as a friend may aim to please and be open to learning.
