Module 1: Activity 12 - Problem Solving Strategies

I must admit that i need to develop more problem solving in my classroom. I have taken it for granted that because of the class level, there are not many opportunities for problem solving. The lesson I did in this activity has proven my theory wrong. the students had fun and the lesson was a success.

Module 1: Activity 11: Encouraging Learners to ask questions

This activity is about encouraging students to ask questions. Students questions let the teacher know what the students need to know and allow the students to think about the lesson, to be more engaged with the material and to enhance their understanding.

Module 1 - Activity 10: Promoting Discussion

This lesson has shed new light on my method of discussion. I learnt that in discussion, students should be “the voice”, where my role is to ask questions that will develop different thinking skills and to modify misconceptions.

Module 1 - Activity 9: What questions do I asked and why?

This exercise in this activity was fun. I was able to view other group members questions that they posted and took note of those that relates to my setting. The reading activity also reinforced some points for me. Questioning the students does more than letting the teacher know how much the students actually know. Questioning also stimulates the students and challenges them to think critically - that is when done effectively.

Module 1: Activity 8 - Piaget's Theory of Cognitive Development

While in teachers college,  I learnt about Piaget and I try as much as possible to use different strategies in my teaching. In my class, manipulative are very important in lesson deliveries.
This activity has reminded me of the importance of diverse teaching which provides the opportunity for each student to work at his / her level since they develop at different cognitive levels.
